Sign 4 - Wars, rumors about wars, epidemias and earthquakes (Matthew 24)
The term “nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” used by Lord Jesus, was the same used in 2 Chronicles 15:1-7 and Isaiah 19:1-2.
The mankind history was always marked by wars. But the 20th century certainly had the biggest number of wars around the world. Wars not only in quantity, but in devastation level. By the news, we only know about the main wars. The smaller conflicts are never notified.
If we look closer into Matthew 24:7-8, Jesus says that wars will be followed by famines, epidemies (Luke 21:11) and earthquakes in various places. The verses also tell us that these events are not tied to each other. They can happen simultaneously, randomly, byt with bigger frequency in the end times.
The 1st and 2nd world wars were followed by famines by the population, especially after the wars. The 1st world war was marked by the influenza virus, that killed europeans, in 1918.
AIDS emerges in the 70s, and the cure is a challenge for the scientints till nowadays.
After recent wars, more epidemies emerged in the world scenario. Ebola, in Zaire, appears in the 90s and kills a big part of people in this country.
In the 21th century, the viruses have also evoluted and have begun to be more dangerous and stronger. In 2002 and 2003, SARS appears and kill many people in China and South Korea.
The aviary flu also scares Asia, leading chicken productions to be sacrificed, which corresponds to millions of chickens worldwide. This flu is contagious to the human being and propagates very fastly.
The number of earthquakes increased a lot in the last 20 years. In 2003, more than 100 5-degrees Richter earquakes happened, according to United States Geological Survey.
In Revelation 6, 11 and 16 the worst earthquakes are predicted.
Planet Earth is composed by plates as in a soccer ball, which represent the continents. Each plate is called tectonic plate. These plates are moving constantly. The geological faults are the points where the plates join each other.

When the plates move, they collide and produce an impact called earthquake. The point where they collide is called epicenter. The impact is propagated as a circle. This is the same effect when you throw a stone into the lake water. Where the waves pass, the earthquakes occur.
When the earthquake happens in the deep sea, the tectonic plates vibration produce tsunamis (Japanese word that means "giant wave") that can invade the seashore and destroy everything nearby.
The tsunamis are a consequence of the earthquakes, which is a sign that preceeds Jesus Second Coming. This is explained in Luke 21:25-28:
"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near"
Today, the concern of the researchers is that all plates are moving in such a way that, in near future, all of them will collide, producing a worldwide earthquake. This confirms Matthew 24 and Revelation 6, 11 and 16.
